The Master and Margarita is a visually stunning Russian drama-fantasy directed by Michael Lockshin, adapted from Mikhail Bulgakov’s iconic novel. Set in 1930s Moscow, the story follows a brilliant writer known as the Master whose daring novel about Pontius Pilate is censored and rejected by the Soviet regime. As he spirals into despair and isolation, his devoted lover Margarita forms a fateful alliance with the enigmatic and powerful Woland—a devilish figure who arrives in Moscow with his chaotic entourage to expose hypocrisy and deliver a darkly satirical reckoning.

Blending sharp social satire, supernatural intrigue, and profound themes of love, creativity, and resistance against authoritarian control, the film masterfully blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Standout performances include August Diehl as the charismatic Woland, Yevgeny Tsyganov as the Master, and Yuliya Snigir as the fearless Margarita.
